# Why is my camera showing a black screen?

If your camera is detected by Talview but the video feed shows only a black screen, the camera hardware is being recognized, but the video stream itself isn't coming through. This usually points to a driver, application conflict, or system-level display issue rather than a permissions problem. This article walks you through resolving it.

### 🔎 Troubleshooting Common Issues

| What might be wrong | How to fix it |
| :- | :- |
| Another application has claimed the camera stream | Close all other apps that may be using the camera, such as Zoom, Teams, Skype, or screen recording tools, then refresh the page. |
| Outdated or corrupted camera driver | On Windows, open Device Manager, locate your camera under **Cameras**, and update or reinstall the driver. On Mac, ensure your OS is updated to the latest version. |
| Hardware acceleration conflict in the browser | In your browser settings, turn off hardware acceleration, restart the browser, and retry the check. |
| Privacy shutter or physical cover on the camera | Check for a sliding privacy shutter or a cover over the lens and remove it. |
| Browser tab lost the camera stream after being backgrounded | Refresh the page and avoid switching tabs or minimizing the browser during the check. |
