Note: Ensure that the Proview browser extension is installed before starting. You can get it from here.

Steps

1. Go to the quiz configuration
  • In the desired course, click on quiz type - New Quiz to access the quiz configurations page.
2. Access proctoring options
  • On the right side of the quiz configuration page, click the “Proview Proctoring” icon to open a side panel.
  • The panel has two tabs: Proctoring Configurations and Playback View. The Proctoring Configurations tab is open by default.
3. Specify mandatory fields
  • Locate password field:
    • Look to the right of the page and find the Availability Dates & Conditions section.
    • Scroll to the bottom of this section to find the Password field.
  • Enter password:
    • Enter a secure password for the exam. This password is necessary for proctoring to be enforced.
  • Fields not set will show “Not Set”, and the “Save” button will be disabled.
  • Once the quiz title, time attributes are correctly set, they will turn green and display “Correctly Set”.
  • Until these mandatory fields are configured, the proctoring and secure browser options will not appear.
Since proctoring is enabled for this quiz, a message will appear to inform students that the test is proctored and password protected. They will need to install the Proview browser extension to obtain the password.
  • Click on Copy Text to copy the message.
  • Paste the copied text into the Description Box.
4. Configure proctoring options
  • Return to the quiz and click the “Proview Proctoring” icon.
  • Now, the proctoring options will appear. Choose the organization, Proview token, and proctoring type from their respective dropdown menus.
5. Enter proctor and candidate instructions
  • Fill in specific instructions for the proctor and candidates in their respective text fields.
6. Save final configurations
  • After completing the configurations, click the Save and Close button.

Assumptions

  • The course administrator has the necessary permissions to configure quiz settings within D2L LMS.
  • The Proview browser extension is installed on the computers of all students who will be taking the exam. Or instruction is provided as part of Quiz descriptions to install the Proview browser extension
  • The administrator has the Proview Browser extension installed and is familiar with basic navigation and operations within the D2L LMS platform.
  • Special Access Arrangements: Students requiring special access arrangements need a separate quiz created for them. They cannot be enrolled in the same quiz as regular students since proctors will not receive prior details about any special accommodations (e.g., additional time allowances). Therefore, it’s necessary to create a separate quiz for students with special requirements and set the appropriate quiz attributes accordingly.

Limitations

  • Extension requirement for instructors: If the Proview proctoring extension is not installed, the quiz proctoring settings section will not appear. While the course admin is aware of this requirement, instructors may not be. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the course admin to inform all instructors within the organization to install the Proview extension on their systems to enable proctoring settings.
  • Manual proctoring termination: A stop proctoring button is required because proctoring cannot be stopped automatically as the exam is loaded in an iframe. If a candidate in an AI-proctored or record-and-review session submits and closes the exam without clicking the stop proctoring button, the session will continue to appear as “in progress,” potentially causing confusion and administrative issues.
  • iPad not supported: Proview proctoring is not supported on iPad devices. Test takers attempting to take a proctored session on any web browser on their iPad will not be able to do so.
  • Chatbot support removed: The chatbot (freshchat) support feature has been removed, which means candidates can no longer use the chatbot to communicate with the support team. However, a link to chat with Talview Technical Support will be present.
  • Browser extension region limitation: The Proview browser extension currently supports only the EU region.
  • Validation for quiz open/close times on individual student assignments: Different open and close times cannot be set for students at an individual level
